Ramping it up this year - More Shows

Well I want to really push myself this year and do as many shows as I can. So I've entered quite a few and still waiting to hear from several that are later in the year. My planner said this is your year and I guess if I want it to be I have to work hard to get it. Of course more shows means more jewelry - much more. So I have been putting in a lot of time at the bench. Working on new designs and techniques, playing with new materials - just a lot of fun. Keeping it all new and evolving helps me to stay motivated and hungry for the next piece. It reaches a point of a need to create to release the ideas and see how different things will work out. My brain is in overdrive most days. So here is a look at a few recent goodies.

The February Art Crawl I was located in the Earth Experience. Our local Natural History Museum. I picked up this "stone" in their gift shop. It's a fossilized dino bone which has been wire wrapped and beautiful glass beads woven into the wire wrap.

What's My Line?

No I'm not a surprise guest on a 50's game show. I do wonder how to create and hold true to a group of creative works, and still advance in my craft.

This can be an elusive beast. I've never been one to follow trends in jewelry much if at all. My one attempt at making tassel necklaces was a horrid failure. I did finally get rid of them all.
If I continue to make what I like and not worry about trends and the color of this summer, what ever that is, I do much better. So I guess I really don't plan my product line, it's more of a progression of my talents, skills and the elements and colors that please me most. This keeps me happy and when I'm using the bits and parts I like wonderful things happen.
So I have learned do what I love and be happy, for me it creates better art. I do want to push myself into new areas by learning new techniques and playing with new patterns and materials, but still keeping the Designs by Royce look. I also want that "look" …

Slowly Back Into The Swing

I have found out that some of the problems I was having was a magnesium deficiency. I really thought I might be getting dementia there for a few weeks. It was scary. Now things seem to be getting back to normal. I'm glad cause I don't do well with not being creative. It's like a part of my life is missing if I'm not fiddling around with something. This is the time of year I normally make jewelry like mad to get a bit ahead for summer and fall. So not feeling like doing anything is not a good thing.

I did the Murfreesboro Art Crawl in February and that was a lot of fun. I was showing in Earth Experience, Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History. I'd never been to the museum and it was such a wonderful place.  I had more room there and was able to set up 2 tables. The traffic flow was lower than when I'm on the town square, but I loved seeing the Museum.

After I set up my tables we looked around and were thrilled with all the different rooms of treasures. There…

Creativity is a life saver

I've had a tuff few years and there are days I just can't find my happy spot. I normally have a slightly childlike outlook on life, but my inner child hides some times. She has been avoiding me here lately. I did get her out of her hiding place this past Saturday when my friend Becky came by and we had a play day with poly clay. It's a really open ended creative tool for jewelry making. It becomes whatever your skills and imagination will let it be. We had a good day playing and experimenting. Took a break and had a great lunch at the Slick Pig, one of my new fav BBQ places in Murfreesboro.

I felt so much better after a couple of hours of creative play. Bouncing ideas back and forth and just wondering what would happen if we tried this or that with the clay.

Good things always come out of a day shared with friends and crafting.
The Boro Art Crawl is this coming Friday night 6:00 - 9:00. I am almost ready, just need to tag the new stuff.  The weather will be nice that day t…

It's Cold out - stay in and create

The weather here has been very odd, freezing, 60's, snowing - so my desire to go out is nill. I've been working on jewelry pretty non stop lately. So I thought today I'd do some sewing! Oh my word I'm making little pot holders that are quilted. Don't be shocked. I've not given it up. Just have to get going on the new stuff for 2018. It's time for new designs and new techniques.
So here are a few of the recent designs.
I've been playing with smooth river stones and wrapping them in silk. Adding beads, wire and other bits of fiber.
This one has several layers of silk hand dyed ribbon two hole and single hole beads and some wire wrapping on a leather cord.
I've had this crinoid stem fossil for years and the other day when I looked at it I decided it's time had come. I added some of my favorite beads.  This was a plant at one time living in the ocean, just think.
Continuing to play with clay and this faux fossil is from my imagination, maybe it'…

So now it's time to plan and start on what 2018 will bring. I don't make new years resolutions, but there is a new phrase I will use this year Think it Through.

During the time since Bobby's death I have moved threw a wide range of emotions but one that has been constant is not really thinking ahead. At first it seemed unnecessary to plan for the future, it was too overwhelming to even think of tomorrow. The next year wasn't even on my mind. This year it will be 4 years, it hardly seems like it. I still cry, I still miss him and I am lonely, but at least now I've started to see a little beyond the next month. I can see the year and there are things I want to do. Things I look forward to doing. It's a long journey but I've had help and took my time going threw those first years. I've settled into my new home. Figured out my way around my new town. Met new people. Go to a wonderful new Church and have my sister and her wonderful family just 15 min away.
