Stepping out on the limb

As you know I love to draw and paint but I seldom do much in the way of showing my art. I  post here and on Instagram, but I've never put anything out in a shop etc. During the last 30 days thou I showed at 2 different places. The Crawl at the Mall in Nashville and The Art Crawl in Murfreesboro. These were kind of big deals to me cause I'm not comfortable yet showing my art. It's also an odd experience for me to be standing by my art in this environment. It took me a good bit to feel comfy in my tent at shows selling jewelry, but that has become easy. Maybe if I do a few more of these it will get better too. I have the hardest time talking to people about myself. I think it might be a common issue? If you don't have issues with this please give me tips.

Nashville Show

Murfreesboro Art Crawl @ Dreaming of Color

New painting done with Alcohol Inks - first try at this and
I love how vivid the colors are.

And meanwhile back at the bench there is fun stuff going on.

This is how a brass half cuff bracelet starts out.
I draw the designs in red ink (it rubs off less for some reason)
Punch a hole every place I will need to saw.
The saw blade will be inserted into each hole then reseated in the saw
handle and you will saw out each hole this way.

Till you end up with this. Then you file, and file...

Then I take it out to the garage to the big bench and shape it over
the bracelet mandrel. Adding this texture while shaping takes a bit
and brass is harder than copper so you hammer it a bit harder.
In the end you get this pretty section of brass and now just
needs a little chain and a clasp. It will be sealed to keep that wonderful shine.

I painted a bunch of metal bits a few days ago and after a good 48+ hours dry time they
are ready to be handled. The paint dries to the touch quicker but I learned the hard
way you don't want your tools around this till it's set hard.

I like using big fun coffee cups to hold stuff and both of these were
gifts from my sister.  The Boba Fett is years old but
she gave me the ray gun a few days ago. It's so cute.

I dropped by Daffodilly Design a few days ago and picked up this
silver "spork".  It reminds me of a trident and calls out for a
cool stone to be wrapped in the 3 points.

Have fun creative days

Sewing Withdrawal

With my next jewelry show a mere 15 days away I've needless to say been twisting and hammering to get new items ready. This will be the last show of the year and I really need to get busy with my Christmas sewing. I have 2 projects on the machine cabinet ready to jump into - but that will be after Nov 12 when the show is. I did combine my two loves last week thou when I was at Stefanie's sewing. I started the base for 4 different fiber jewelry projects. I've always wanted to make one of the big fiber bib necklaces and got a good start on that - it's not done yet thou. These smaller mixed media pieces are finished.

Happy to say that I sold one of my fiber art wall hangings on my Etsy shop today.  It's always such a great feeling to know someone loves your work.  I like making wall hangings and post cards the best.  The freedom of knowing I can put anything into the art and  let my creativity run amuck is a wonderful thing.   So Stars In The Sand is now history.

Sewing Withdrawal

Well it's just been days since I've done any sewing - 7 as of today. I do feel like I'm not quite centered when no creating is going on. I have had time to squeeze in a little doodling but that's about it.
With Earth day this month I wanted to share the tote bag I made from a bird seed bag.  There was almost nothing left over from the original bag. They only thing tossed out  was from evening up the bottom. The wonderful Edna showed me how to make this. The only thing you need to keep in mind is don't use your regular sewing machine needle. She had me get a leather needle and it worked great. I just used regular thread too. So now Angel has a big old tote for her treasure hunts at the flea markets/yard sales. The handles were cut off the top of the bag above where the pretty bird drawing is.

This morning I finished up Angel's hand print zen doodle. I used water color pencils to color this in - you use very little water. Just enough to blend the colors.

And speaking…

It's Cold out - stay in and create

The weather here has been very odd, freezing, 60's, snowing - so my desire to go out is nill. I've been working on jewelry pretty non stop lately. So I thought today I'd do some sewing! Oh my word I'm making little pot holders that are quilted. Don't be shocked. I've not given it up. Just have to get going on the new stuff for 2018. It's time for new designs and new techniques.
So here are a few of the recent designs.
I've been playing with smooth river stones and wrapping them in silk. Adding beads, wire and other bits of fiber.
This one has several layers of silk hand dyed ribbon two hole and single hole beads and some wire wrapping on a leather cord.
I've had this crinoid stem fossil for years and the other day when I looked at it I decided it's time had come. I added some of my favorite beads.  This was a plant at one time living in the ocean, just think.
Continuing to play with clay and this faux fossil is from my imagination, maybe it'…
