Craft Projects Overtake Murfreesboro Woman's Home

Well that is what you would think if you were to drop by. There is a big queen size quilt on the long arm. A sketch pad color pencils on the kitchen table and a canvas on the stand in the garage. There is fabric on the regular machine too for a new shower curtain. So to say the least I have plenty going on. I just came in from digging in the yard. The front flower bed was over crowed and several of the small bushes had died so I've started working on that a little bit at a time. At this current rate it may take me till the end of May to get it all done, but it will get done.

The big quilt is taking longer than I had expected. I am over half done then the binding - not really looking forward to that part. This is the biggest quilt I've ever quilted.

I really enjoyed this Easter. The Church I go to had 2 services on Saturday night and we went to the early service. Then Sunday I slept a bit late and put my bunny cake together and went to my sister's and had a wonderful time. My nephew hunted eggs and we had a wonderful meal. Angel made brownies with strawberry's on the side that were covered in strawberry icing (oh that was to die for) and I made a bunny cake. My mom used to use jelly beans for the eyes and nose. I was lazy and just printed off a cute face and used that. The cake was chocolate and was so moist it was hard to handle and ice. So I called him freckles cause he had a few chocolate crumbs in his white icing. The coconut covered up those for the most part.

After a too long break in jewelry making I am getting back at it. These were a custom order and I like the way they turned out.  This shows a few of the steps to making such a simple little earring. I love how the light catches on the hammered edges.

About a month or so ago I got out the poly clay and started making elements for my jewelry. I'd not done any clay stuff in several years. The elements I created were a bit different than my older stuff, but not quite the different I wanted. So I am going to revisit this in a day or two (oops another project) maybe I'll wait till the quilting is done and the binding cut and ready. I have several cool found objects that are sitting on the bench patiently waiting for me.

My nephew said I am obsessed with octopus and pigs.  Pigs tend to end up in my kitchen and the guest bath for such a small room has 5 octopi in there. I guess this is what happens when you live alone you let your quirky out. So this is a little 3" x 9" and the background was done with the flow paint technique. Tried out a new paint pen for the drawing.

Certainly sounds like you have pretty full days. I like that not only you talk about the work in your outdoor garden.....but also the wonderful addition to your octopuses garden! It's fabulous. You are really putting the results of those "flow" paintings to good use.

Ah! Great solution for the bunny cake. I may "borrow" that idea when I need to add an element and I don't want to mess up a cake

Sewing Withdrawal

With my next jewelry show a mere 15 days away I've needless to say been twisting and hammering to get new items ready. This will be the last show of the year and I really need to get busy with my Christmas sewing. I have 2 projects on the machine cabinet ready to jump into - but that will be after Nov 12 when the show is. I did combine my two loves last week thou when I was at Stefanie's sewing. I started the base for 4 different fiber jewelry projects. I've always wanted to make one of the big fiber bib necklaces and got a good start on that - it's not done yet thou. These smaller mixed media pieces are finished.

Happy to say that I sold one of my fiber art wall hangings on my Etsy shop today.  It's always such a great feeling to know someone loves your work.  I like making wall hangings and post cards the best.  The freedom of knowing I can put anything into the art and  let my creativity run amuck is a wonderful thing.   So Stars In The Sand is now history.

Sewing Withdrawal

Well it's just been days since I've done any sewing - 7 as of today. I do feel like I'm not quite centered when no creating is going on. I have had time to squeeze in a little doodling but that's about it.
With Earth day this month I wanted to share the tote bag I made from a bird seed bag.  There was almost nothing left over from the original bag. They only thing tossed out  was from evening up the bottom. The wonderful Edna showed me how to make this. The only thing you need to keep in mind is don't use your regular sewing machine needle. She had me get a leather needle and it worked great. I just used regular thread too. So now Angel has a big old tote for her treasure hunts at the flea markets/yard sales. The handles were cut off the top of the bag above where the pretty bird drawing is.

This morning I finished up Angel's hand print zen doodle. I used water color pencils to color this in - you use very little water. Just enough to blend the colors.

And speaking…

It's Cold out - stay in and create

The weather here has been very odd, freezing, 60's, snowing - so my desire to go out is nill. I've been working on jewelry pretty non stop lately. So I thought today I'd do some sewing! Oh my word I'm making little pot holders that are quilted. Don't be shocked. I've not given it up. Just have to get going on the new stuff for 2018. It's time for new designs and new techniques.
So here are a few of the recent designs.
I've been playing with smooth river stones and wrapping them in silk. Adding beads, wire and other bits of fiber.
This one has several layers of silk hand dyed ribbon two hole and single hole beads and some wire wrapping on a leather cord.
I've had this crinoid stem fossil for years and the other day when I looked at it I decided it's time had come. I added some of my favorite beads.  This was a plant at one time living in the ocean, just think.
Continuing to play with clay and this faux fossil is from my imagination, maybe it'…
