A Little of this and that

Well this weekend I had a wonderful 2 days in a row at home. A unique thing for me hear lately. So on Saturday I cleaned all day - while working 6 days a week for several weeks things got a bit dusty. So on Sunday I decided that I would play a bit in the morning. I had several small quilt projects pinned and ready to free motion so those got knocked out first.
The small squares are candle mats which will be given as gifts at Thanksgiving.
They will have cream color pillar candles and some Christmas greenery.
The larger one will have several candles and a spray of mixed Christmas florals.

A few weeks ago I decided to finally add the embellishment to the men's
vest I picked up at Goodwill. I wanted this to wear to shows. I wanted it to show
my mixture of fiber and metal. I was getting ready for a class I was teaching on
mixing zippers/metal and fibers with your jewelry making.

Here is a little pile of goodies I used for the class project.

These are several of the items I took to class to show
as examples of this technique.

Working with the pearls in
the pink piece with the crown made me want to
try out the pearls in a new type of design for me.

Not quite my normal style but I like it.
So I have a new project on the sewing machine.
Another present that needs to be finished by mid November.
Can't show you that one thou cause it's
new mommy reads this blog.

And believe it or not last night I even started working on my
English paper piecing again. I have a goal of finishing this lap
quilt by my 60th birthday - I hope. The sections are pretty small.

Sewing Withdrawal

With my next jewelry show a mere 15 days away I've needless to say been twisting and hammering to get new items ready. This will be the last show of the year and I really need to get busy with my Christmas sewing. I have 2 projects on the machine cabinet ready to jump into - but that will be after Nov 12 when the show is. I did combine my two loves last week thou when I was at Stefanie's sewing. I started the base for 4 different fiber jewelry projects. I've always wanted to make one of the big fiber bib necklaces and got a good start on that - it's not done yet thou. These smaller mixed media pieces are finished.

Happy to say that I sold one of my fiber art wall hangings on my Etsy shop today.  It's always such a great feeling to know someone loves your work.  I like making wall hangings and post cards the best.  The freedom of knowing I can put anything into the art and  let my creativity run amuck is a wonderful thing.   So Stars In The Sand is now history.

Sewing Withdrawal

Well it's just been days since I've done any sewing - 7 as of today. I do feel like I'm not quite centered when no creating is going on. I have had time to squeeze in a little doodling but that's about it.
With Earth day this month I wanted to share the tote bag I made from a bird seed bag.  There was almost nothing left over from the original bag. They only thing tossed out  was from evening up the bottom. The wonderful Edna showed me how to make this. The only thing you need to keep in mind is don't use your regular sewing machine needle. She had me get a leather needle and it worked great. I just used regular thread too. So now Angel has a big old tote for her treasure hunts at the flea markets/yard sales. The handles were cut off the top of the bag above where the pretty bird drawing is.

This morning I finished up Angel's hand print zen doodle. I used water color pencils to color this in - you use very little water. Just enough to blend the colors.

And speaking…

Managing Time

One thing I have found during the last 10 months is I have trouble managing my time like I have in the past. Seems like distractions and life run all over the schedules I make. I sometimes wonder if I'm like the little dog in UP and get the squirrel distraction.
For what ever the reasons this blog has drifted off into my Scarlet area of "I'll deal with it tomorrow. "

With my first show of the year just a few weeks out I'd normally be in full swing of creating new pieces for the show. I have only started creating again a few months back and seem to be getting into the flow of working at my bench once again, thou now as regular as I did in the past.  Here are a few of the recent items.

This brass butterfly was given a rusted look with alcohol inks.
An old sewing machine bulb, the end of a fork and some wings created this pendant
The focal element of this necklace is from a vintage bracelet
Then one day I decided to get out the poly clay again.  I've not done anythin…
