A Good Friday

During all this moving and painting stuff I've fallen so far behind on simple things like reading my e-mail. It took me about 2 hours to get caught up with the wonderful groups I belong to on Quilt With Us. Can't miss out on what's going on there. I discovered that one of the members, Terri Drake of The Drake's Nest Studios had posted her new guest artist for Aug. It's me! Drop by and check out her site.

I need samples for tomorrow's open house at JoAnn of the wire workshop so I needed to make samples of coils, different wraps etc. After I got done with those I though hey I need new jewelry! So I made some simple swinging little earrings and a good basic black necklace. Didn't have to drag all the jewelry stuff out on the dinning room table today, nope - just sat right in my new room and played with the wire and had a big old time. That little table is just the right size.

Going to try a new technique for putting on binding with the machine on Sunday, I'll let you know how it turns out. I just don't have the patience/time to do it by hand.

Royce, your jewelry is wonderful! Then again, I'm not surprised given your talents and many gifts still to be discovered. I LOVE your new sewing/crafting area. What a way to reuse the TV center. I could get our TV off the TV Center (still has TV in it) I'd gut that and make it into something useable for the studio or put an aquarium in it for the cat . Have a great day.

I wish you were closer to me. I NEED that wire workshop!
I can see the idea in my mind's eye, but I can't seem to make it work.

Sewing Withdrawal

With my next jewelry show a mere 15 days away I've needless to say been twisting and hammering to get new items ready. This will be the last show of the year and I really need to get busy with my Christmas sewing. I have 2 projects on the machine cabinet ready to jump into - but that will be after Nov 12 when the show is. I did combine my two loves last week thou when I was at Stefanie's sewing. I started the base for 4 different fiber jewelry projects. I've always wanted to make one of the big fiber bib necklaces and got a good start on that - it's not done yet thou. These smaller mixed media pieces are finished.

Happy to say that I sold one of my fiber art wall hangings on my Etsy shop today.  It's always such a great feeling to know someone loves your work.  I like making wall hangings and post cards the best.  The freedom of knowing I can put anything into the art and  let my creativity run amuck is a wonderful thing.   So Stars In The Sand is now history.

Sewing Withdrawal

Well it's just been days since I've done any sewing - 7 as of today. I do feel like I'm not quite centered when no creating is going on. I have had time to squeeze in a little doodling but that's about it.
With Earth day this month I wanted to share the tote bag I made from a bird seed bag.  There was almost nothing left over from the original bag. They only thing tossed out  was from evening up the bottom. The wonderful Edna showed me how to make this. The only thing you need to keep in mind is don't use your regular sewing machine needle. She had me get a leather needle and it worked great. I just used regular thread too. So now Angel has a big old tote for her treasure hunts at the flea markets/yard sales. The handles were cut off the top of the bag above where the pretty bird drawing is.

This morning I finished up Angel's hand print zen doodle. I used water color pencils to color this in - you use very little water. Just enough to blend the colors.

Managing Time

One thing I have found during the last 10 months is I have trouble managing my time like I have in the past. Seems like distractions and life run all over the schedules I make. I sometimes wonder if I'm like the little dog in UP and get the squirrel distraction.
For what ever the reasons this blog has drifted off into my Scarlet area of "I'll deal with it tomorrow. "

With my first show of the year just a few weeks out I'd normally be in full swing of creating new pieces for the show. I have only started creating again a few months back and seem to be getting into the flow of working at my bench once again, thou now as regular as I did in the past.  Here are a few of the recent items.

This brass butterfly was given a rusted look with alcohol inks.
An old sewing machine bulb, the end of a fork and some wings created this pendant
The focal element of this necklace is from a vintage bracelet
Then one day I decided to get out the poly clay again.  I've not done anythin…
